Nokia 6121 Classic iSync Plugin

I currently carry two Mobile phones, one for work (Optus) and my own (3 Mobile).  Up until now I've been using two of my own 3G handsets with both SIM cards; a Nokia 6120 Classic and a Nokia E51.

3 only offer 3G coverage on the 2100MHz band, with a fall-back to Telstra's 2.75G (EDGE) network when outside of Metropolitan areas.

Optus have also only offered 3G on the 2100MHz band within Metro areas with a fall-back to their own 2.5G (GPRS) network, that is until recently.  In the last couple of months Optus have been rolling out their new rural 3G coverage, but like Telstra's rural coverage it will not be using the 2100MHz band.  To futher complicate things, rather than using the 850MHz band Telstra uses in the bush, Optus and Vodafone have chosen to use the 900MHz band.

Both of my phone handsets are dual-band UMTS with 2100MHz/850MHz support.  This means they work great on all of Telstra's network but only within Metro areas on everyone elses.

Introducing the Nokia 6121 Classic.  The 6121c is identical in almost every way to the 6120c except two: The model number (This is significant) and it supports the 900MHz UMTS band rather than the 850MHz one.

I use Mac OS X's iSync to synchronise my phones with my MacBook Pro's Calendar and Address Book.  For the Nokia 6120c I found a modified N70 iSync plugin long ago that made it work, but as the 6121c has a slightly different model number of course it doesn't work.

I did the usual Google thing, but as the 6121c is a far less common phone it seems like no-one except one commercial provider has bothered to make a working iSync plugin and there's no way I'm going to pay 10 Euros for something I already basically have!

I ended up modifying my 6120c plugin to make it work with the 6121c, and to save anyone else looking for a 6121c iSync plugin the time I've attached both it and the original 6120c plugin to this post.

I hope someone finds this useful!

    Hi Sam,

Thanks so much for doing this, and making it public! Very, very helpful. I've installed it for my 6121.

As far as you know, does your plugin support iCal syncing? It syncs my contacts perfectly, but none of my calendar appointments are sync'd in either direction. Any ideas?

    Hey,

The problem wasn't with the plugin, it was with my brain. The year is 2009, not 2008. I had set my phone's year incorrectly. The appointments weren't being synced because they were about a year into the future.

Anyway, thanks for the plugin, Sam.

Hello Sam. thanks for the work on making isync recognise the nokia 6121 classic. I too went to the german website for the plug-in, then found one on the Nokia Europe site, then found yours. I too don''t want to pay the 10 euros for untested software. I have also found that the Nokia Europe plug-in doesn't work. I have finally tried yours, and unfortunately found that it won't work on my system. I am using OS10.5.6 and iSync 3.0.2 and I have a brand new Classic, bought today. Do you have any suggestions that I might try?

    Hi Mark,

To install the plugin, you have to put the extracted "Nokia-6121c.phoneplugin" folder inside the correct folder in your iSync package. Have you done this?

If not, open your applications folder, right-click iSync, show package contents. Then open the following path in the package...

    Contents -> PlugIns -> ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice -> Contents -> PlugIns

... and drop the "Nokia-6121c.phoneplugin" in there along with all the others.
